The Word January 20

St. Mathew 4:3-4

And when the tempter came to Him, he said, if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made to bread. But He answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Have you ever wondered why this would have been a sin? I know I did for years. But here’s some fascinating insights to the character of God.

Saint John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made.

Jesus is the Word, and The Word is God. Satan will never strategically outmaneuver God. Imagine the power of this statement Jesus’s name was originally The Word! God speaks the Word and creates the heavens and the earth.

Satan cunningly deceives Eve with the spoken word by changing the context of the meaning of the word. In Genesis 2:16-17 God tells Adam to tend the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

In Genesis 3:3 Eve adds a couple of words to the commandment “neither shall you touch it lest you die.” Where did this statement come from? You see Satan had already been working on Adam & Eve’s thoughts. It was never a commandment not to touch it, they had to touch it to tend to it.

Gen. 3:4-5

“Ye shall not surely die :For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Here we see how Satan deceives man with words. It was God’s will for Adam and Eve to tend the tree. It was His will for Adam and Eve to touch the tree, but it was not His will for Adam and Eve to eat of the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. There are three wills on this earth: God’s will, Man’s will, & Satan’s will

God creates man with a freewill, Satan deceives Eve into eating the fruit, first by thought and by adding a few words to a commandment and deceiving her with a lie, words. Now because man followed Satan’s will, they have gone out of God’s will. And through sin Adam and Eve gave all their authority over to Satan.

Satan deceived man by words, breaking God’s will. It was God’s will for Jesus to be in this fast for forty days and Jesus was never out of God’s will. Satan knew in order to defeat Jesus, he had to get Jesus out of the will of God.

But here is where God Display’s His Master Strategy which Satan missed, in effect God is saying you stole man’s free will by deceiving with the word. Now I have sent My Son, The Word to take back My will for mankind!

Jesus defeated Satan with words! Then turns around and gives this authority right back to man! (Mathew 16:19 by giving the keys of the kingdom to Peter.)

Just to let Satan know who has the authority, Jesus multiplied the seven loaves and fed thousands.
